Courseware Description

The beginning stage of this course is focused on providing students with plenty of hands-on experience on Revit, learning the basic layout of the screen, tools and 3d model creation. The latter stage of the course is designed to expand the Revit user’s knowledge beyond the basics, and introducing the advanced features of the software.

Objectives

The primary objective of this courseware is to teach students the concepts of Building Information Modelling and introduce the tools for parametric building design and documentation using Revit Architecture 2008.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand how a Revit project is structured
  • Navigate the various views of a project using the Project Browser
  • Understand how Revit creates objects: Work in 3d-space with Levels and Offsets
  • Create a range of basic building components and variations within categories such as Walls, Doors, Windows, Schedules
  • Use working drawing tools for notation, scheduling & dimensioning
  • Export data by converting Revit drawings in PDF, DWG and DXF formats and create print sets.
  • Understand the basics of Component Families and Types
  • Understand how Worksets allow a team to work on one project

This courseware is designed for new users of Revit Architecture.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that students have a working knowledge of:

  • No previous CAD experience is necessary. However, architectural design, drafting, or engineering experience is highly recommended
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP or Microsoft® Windows® 2000

  • Creating drawing sets, layouts and print formats
  • Complex wall types, sweeps & reveals
  • Extruded & curved roofs, dormers
  • Curtain walls, site tools
  • Using the create tool for custom modelling with In-place families
  • The basics of construction phases and design options.
  • Customizing Revit Project settings/ templates
  • Import / export data
